1. Invitation

We are delighted to announce the organization of the 4th FIDE World Junior Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities. This championship will be held in Denver, CO from June 28 – July 5, 2021.

This is the official invitation to all eligible participants, as approved by the FIDE Commission “Chess for the Disabled” (DIS).

2. Participation

The FIDE World Junior Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities is an event for chess players with a physical, hearing, visual and/or cognitive impairment, who are under the age of 20 by January 1, 2021. Every participant must provide an official document signed by their physician confirming their disability.

The FIDE World Junior Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities is held as a 7-round-tournament, its an individual competition which also includes ‘team awards’.
Teams represent National Federations. All the players of a team must be members of the same federation. National Federations must have at least two players to make a team, although no maximum number of players. The top four scores of team members will count as the team score for championship.

3. Organizer

The event is organized by Chess Educators and IO Beatriz Marinello, under the patronage of FIDE and in cooperation with the FIDE DIS Commission and the US Chess Federation.

7. Rules

The 4th World Junior Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities will be held in accordance with FIDE rules. FIDE and USCF ratings will be used.

8. Number of Rounds

The competition will be played as a 7-round tournament. The format of the tournament will be announced at the technical meeting.

9. Time Control

90 min/40 moves + 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move 1. Default time at the beginning of all rounds will be 30 minutes.

10. Final Standing

The ranking depends on the number of points.

11. Tie-breaks

Tie-breaks will be announced at the technical meeting.

12. Titles and Prizes

Individual:

The overall winner obtains the title:

  • FIDE World Junior Chess Champion for Players with Disabilities + direct title of FM (a minimum FIDE rating of 2100 is required according to the FIDE regulations B01.0.62) / 1st Place Gold Medal with Trophy Cup and Certificate
  • FIDE World Junior Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities – 2nd Place Silver Medal with Trophy Cup and Certificate
  • FIDE World Junior Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities – 3rd Place Bronze Medal with Trophy Cup and Certificate
  • FIDE World Junior Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities Trophy Cup and Certificate of Participation for all players.

FIDE Titles:

  • FM/WFM title for gold medal or 1st equal. (a minimum FIDE rating of 2100/1900 is required according to the FIDE regulations B01.0.62)
  • CM/WCM title for silver and bronze medal. (a minimum FIDE rating of 2000/1800 is required according to the FIDE regulations B01.0.62)

Teams:

  • FIDE World Team Junior Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities
  • We will recognize Gold, Silver and Bronze winners.

Special Awards:

  • Top Girl Player (Special Award presented by the Eade Foundation)
  • Top Youngest Player
  • Top Player, per continent

14. Entry Fees

  • Tournament Registration Fee: US $100 per participant

15. Registration

Registrations shall be made through the official website at www.WorldJuniorChess.org . The registration form shall include the surname/s, first name/s, FIDE ID number, FIDE rating and passport number (for visa purposes).

The following required attachments shall be emailed to info@worldjuniorchess.org prior to the start of the championship: 

  • Copy of the National Federation endorsement
  • Copy of an official document confirming the disability of the player. This document can be emailed to info@worldjuniorchess.org or given to the organizer no later than at the technical meeting.

16. Accommodation Rates:

Players must stay at the official hotel, exception can be made on a case by case basis.  Service Dogs are welcomed, but participants must notify the organizer.
